Cause Base Logocausebase

The easiest way to accelerate the organisations you back

Causebase is where givers and advisers find organisations to back and read what named funders say about them. Publish why you back an organisation, under your name, and it reaches every giver who cares about your cause.

why we back them

A reunification rate four times the national figure, with the cost per family a fraction of a year in care. The founder has lived experience of the system and the data to show it.

what we looked at

Three years of outcome data, the audited accounts, two site visits and references from the referring agencies.

outcomes we track

Children reunified, cost per family, avoided out-of-home care costs

How one note reaches every giver in your cause

Why funders publish their notes on Causebase

Your research keeps working after the grant is made.

  1. More funding for what you have already chosen

A note is a standing introduction to every giver in your cause, with no new application from the organisation.

  2. Beyond your own network

Funders already share this between people they know. A note reaches the givers you will never meet.

  3. Show others the way

Publishing how you think sets a standard the next giver can learn from.

What goes in a note

Simple on purpose. Anything the organisation told you in confidence stays private.

A note under your name shows other givers how to give

Australia has no strong habit of talking about who we back and why. A note shows the next giver what you looked at, what mattered and what you decided. That is how people learn to give well.

A named note

Your reasons and your signature, on the organisation’s page.

Anonymous backing

A quieter mark of support, below the named notes. It still counts.

The rules every note follows

A note is a view at a date, under your name.

Not a recommendation, and the terms say so. It stays up until you withdraw or update it.

Only verified funders publish, and nothing is edited.

We check each contributor is a real funder with a record of gifts. What you publish is not edited by Causebase or by the organisation.

Nothing is ranked above another contributor’s note.

Notes show in date order. 10x10’s sit under the same terms as yours.

It costs nothing.

Causebase charges advisers and structure providers for the workspace, never funders for publishing or organisations for appearing.

What contributors will be able to do next

  1. Now

Publish a note on an organisation you back

  2. In design

    Your track record, as inspiration

The grants you are proudest of and what came of them, on one page under your name. Not a score: a bank of what is possible.

  3. In design

    Grantmaking practice, in the open

A public place for the lessons of grantmaking: how you decide, what you got wrong, what you would do again.

  4. In design

Anchor a fund on your thesis

A time-bound fund anchored by your research and a first commitment, open to givers who share the thesis.

Most givers have money to give and no time to do the research. You have done the research. Causebase is where it reaches them.

Founding contributors: 10x10 Philanthropy, Community Capital. Three to five across different worldviews.

Questions contributors ask

What if we are wrong, or change our mind?
A note is a view at a date, and it says so. Withdraw or update it any time.
Does publishing create an obligation?
No. A note is not a recommendation and the terms say so.
Will our grantees be flooded with asks?
No. Causebase never contacts an organisation on a giver’s behalf.

Research done once, by the funder who did it, is how philanthropy gets better

Why we exist

  1. For the organisations you back

Less time writing applications, more funders arriving already informed.

  2. For every giver

Every organisation working on the problem in view, instead of the few their own network knows.
