Lasting change on the problems you care about is possible

The organisations exist. The capital exists. What was never built is the research that connects them.

The organisations are out there. Most givers never hear of them.

On almost every problem people give to, organisations already exist with the evidence and the model to change it. Many of those problems are stagnant all the same, and some are getting worse. There is a young person sleeping rough tonight in a city where more than one organisation could help them, and they will not meet.

Giving well starts with seeing every organisation working on the problem

  1. Every organisation working on the problem

Who is doing what, at what scale, in which part of it.

  2. Your own lens

The same organisations, read through what you believe about how change happens.

  3. Each organisation’s place in the whole

Is this part of the problem crowded or neglected?

  4. The organisation itself

Evidence, leadership, theory of change, stage. Where most giving advice starts; it comes fourth.

  5. A portfolio, not a pile of grants

Across causes, stages and kinds of change, so the risk being managed is a problem persisting.

Well-intentioned people reach June with no time to look beyond the organisations they already know

Most giving is decided by busy people in the weeks before the end of the financial year, alongside everything else. An investor in the same position has a century of research to lean on. Nobody built the equivalent for givers, so the organisations doing the work stay out of sight.

The sell side is sophisticated.
The buy side was never built.

Waiting costs years. Reily Foundation shows how many.

Reily Foundation works with parents in the child protection system to bring their children home. In 2023 it was volunteer-led, on an $80,000 budget. A Causebase contributor backed it, and within three years it had the team, the model and the evidence to reunify 72 children with their families. At the growth most small charities manage, 10 to 12 per cent a year, that scale would have taken about 27 years. The organisation existed the whole time. What it lacked was a funder who could see it.

Research on organisations comes first. Funding data and evidence summaries come next.

  1. Now

    Organisational research

Research on individual organisations, done once and shared, for the people giving rather than the people asking. This is Causebase.

  2. Next

    Transparency

Open data on what gets funded, by whom, at what scale: the precondition for seeing what is neglected.

  3. Next

    An evidence commons

Plain summaries of which kinds of intervention have strong evidence, at what cost.

No scores, no house view, just your judgement better informed.

This is not an argument against any organisation, large or small, and not one view of what effective means. We disagree, by upbringing and experience, about how change happens and what counts. Causebase scores nothing and ranks nothing; it shows how different funders think, under their own names, and leaves the judgment with you.

10x10 builds Causebase and publishes on it as one contributor

10x10 Philanthropy is a DGR1 not-for-profit. Eleven years finding and backing early-stage organisations, the research behind Community Capital, 120+ scouts trained each year, and $12.2M unlocked for the sector in FY26. It builds Causebase for the sector and publishes its own research on it under the same rules as everyone else.

Same format, same terms.

10x10’s notes sit under the same format and terms as every other contributor’s.

Date order, never ranked.

No contributor is placed above another. There is no house view.

Nothing is written by the organisation.

Every page is built the same way from public sources.

Contributors and organisations pay nothing.

Advisers and structure providers pay for the workspace. That is the whole revenue model.

The market was never built. It can be now.

The young person sleeping rough tonight is the unit of account. The organisations that could change their trajectory exist. The capital exists. What is missing is the research that connects them.
